After decades of triumph, democracy is losing ground

This doesn't surprise me. Democracy is extremely overrated, like a company or person with good PR or brand name recognition but a shabby product..

You get to vote but your vote making a difference in policy is essentially 0% in most cases. It's more to make you feel like you have a say than actually giving you a say.

A better system would be something closer to what the Founding Fathers set up where you could move to different state if you like their rules better, giving you actual control over the type of government you want. The 20th century put an end to that type of decentralization, though, with central banking, crazy high income taxes, and the destruction of states rights in the name of things like the interstate commerce clause.
